Ukash Complains to WIPO Over 74 'Ukash' Domains

LONDON — Ukash, one of the largest players in the online adult alternative billing space, has filed a cybersquatting complaint with WIPO arbitrators over 74 domain names.

The 74 domains — all .com names — in the trademark complaint filed all have the "ukash" mark within their names.

At post time, it wasn't determined how many respondents will be involved in the WIPO case, but nearly all of the 74 sites peddle similar forms of processing.

Ukash is an online form of payment available in Europe, South Africa, South America, Canada and Australia. It is a cash product similar to a pre-paid card but has no relationship to the card associations. Payment, by using a 19-digit voucher, is instant and there are no chargebacks.

The London-based company, whose parent is Smart Voucher Ltd., sells the voucher at thousands of kiosks and was nominated in 2010 for the XBIZ Billing Company of the Year (Alternative) award.

WIPO arbitrators have not yet decided Ukash's case over the 74 URLs.

XBIZ was unable to reach officials at London-based Ukash at post time for comment.
